Runway Report Milan Fashion Week 2011

There were many looks being captured on the Milan Runway. Plenty of designer’s took the natural, nude, earth tone route with their colors, while others went the vibrant, bright, energetic, color struck route. One thing is for the masculinity was very present in the tones of the collections.

Even if the models were strutting in dresses it was often very loose fitting, box-cut, shapeless, baggy, silhouettes being played up. One of the only collections I seen with sleek fitting pieces was Blue Marine.

As for footwear variety would be an understatement there were platform heels, the basic pump, and boots. Accessories were huge for Milan Fashion Week with head bands, ties, hanker chiefs, thin stomach belts, feathered hats, clutches, etc. All made the perfect detail for the look at hand. Fabrics and textiles were high in demand there were hints of lace, leather, spandex, velvet, satin, silk, sweater, nylon, fur being seen in the collections. Speaking of fur, Prada which was my least favorite collection had an complete animal theme, one model had a wild lion mane inspired themed look and was draped completely in snake skin from head to toe. I enjoyed the direction they were aimming for but nothing stood out  and demanded king of the jungle (fashion world, perhaps) authority within the collection. Could the devil indeed be wearing Prada?

My ultimate two favorite collections of Milan Fashion Week were Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci. Dolce & Gabbana completely brought the shock factor with their spunky, funky, youthful, animated, kaleidoscopic, mixed print collection. Diversed models of all races, Afro-centric jewelry, high top sneakers with Tu-Tu’s they completely took it to the left but it was all right.

And last but not least Gucci. Gucci’s sophistication, class and sexiness triumphed up and down the runway. With their bold, florid, concept of color and design Gucci dominated Milan’s Fashion Week.

One thing for sure rather the collection was dominatrix or jungle themed, masculine with a touch of feminism. Milan Fashion Week will be one to remember. It will indeed have it’s place in the fashion week runway strut of fame.
