Let’s Talk: Dark Girls Documentary

Last night the documentary “Dark Girls” premiered on Oprah Winfrey’s network OWN. Dark Girls is Bill Duke’s documentary which dissect the light skin vs dark skin discussion within the black community, among black women specifically. I love how there was research  to identify the root of our colorism issues. My self confident as a black woman, dark skin black woman in particular, I have to give all credit to my mom and God. She always told me I was beautiful because of my blackness not in spite of my blackness. Did I still get teased growing up? Absolutely, yet it didn’t effect me because I was being taught my history and self love at home. God let’s me know to love myself because I was made in his image. Did any of you suffer from the light skin vs dark skin mentality stigma growing up?
